This Sunday, June 7, we’re joining with 1649 churches from around the world for a series that’s titled “One Prayer.” I really can’t tell you how excited I am that Hub City is going to be a part of this.

For one, we believe that the Church is more important than our church. We’re just one church working towards the advancement of God’s kingdom. Another reason I’m excited is because I think this is one way we’re a part of fulfilling Jesus’ prayer of “make them one.” Finally, I’m pumped because we’re going to hear from some great communicators who say what I want to say, just better.

The theme for 2009 is God is…. Now I know it’ll be a bit weird having the sermon come via video, but heck, we meet in a movie theater, so it’ll be OK! Here’s the lineup for the One Prayer series:

6/7 – God is… strength.  Francis Chan, Cornerstone Church, Simi Valley, CA

6/14 – God is… ready.  Scott Hodge, Orchard Park Community Church, Aurora, IL

6/21 – God is… love.  Craig Groeschel, Lifechurch.tv, Edmond, OK

6/28 – God is….  Andy Stanley, North Point Community Church, Alpharetta, GA

I’m really excited about Hub City BS that’ll be starting June 6. Hub City BS (Basic Stuff) is our 101 class. We’re going to talk about who we are as a church, what we’re about, what we believe, what we’ll fight over, what’s not that big of a deal to us, and much, more. I am positive that it will be worth your while, so email me and let me know you’re coming.

Today I was working on some content for Hub City BS. I was thinking through why it is that we use humor. Why do we make stupid, pointless videos? Why do we make fun of ourselves?

There’s a point to the madness. Sure, we love to laugh, and we think it’s healthy not to take ourselves too seriously. But the main reason we use humor is because it tears down walls. It opens people up. It gets rid of the tension in the room.

We’ll share more during Hub City BS, so sign up: Hub City BS, the first three Sundays in June, 6-7:30 @ Threshold Church’s building in Boiling Springs.

The Herald-Journal’s Escape section did a story about Movies in the Park.  You can read it here.

Movies in the Park begins next week.  Here’s the postcard with the info.  Also, check out www.hubcitychurch.com.mipfront-2009

Seriously, What’s the big deal? Why all the fuss? Can Christianity be the only way? Is that even fair? Don’t good people go to heaven? What’s so great about Christianity?

Join us as we discover:  What’s so Great about Christianity?  Sundays.  10 AM.  Spartan 16 Movie Theater

Today we’re in week three of this series we’re calling Sex Ed and we’re talking about Adultery. We camped out in Proverbs 5. Here are the 8 Baby Steps to Adultery that I talked about:

1. They enjoy common interests.

2. They share personal information.

3. They anticipate time together.

4. They hide the relationship from their spouses.

5. They flirt with minor arousing touch.

6. They invent excuses to call or meet.

7. They deceive their spouse with words and actions.

8. They engage sexually.
